This quarter is now two weeks done. There are a few ideas I would like to note. Students for the online learning in the first 8 weeks, had to learn to be extra up front with their parents and teachers. Some students are still not sure how to tell the entire story for their parents. I only hope the students are learning to grow their cave. Their cave is the prefrontal cortex and the kids have learned an old story from Socrates and Plato. These type of distance studies will continue for quite a while. The White House Government officials have just said, that they are unable to control the pandemic, so we may be learning from a distance much longer than we all expected.
The largest note to date is that students need to communicate more than ever. When they decide to not ask for help, or a question, the levels of misunderstanding grow exponentially. The most devastating problem is using social media and other devices and muting the school computer and not paying attention in class. The kids know what decisions they are making. I have been trying model polite behaviors but it still unclear if all the students are trying their best to be polite and follow the social contract to learn, and spend time well. This is a steep learning curve for us all. Take care be safe and wear a mask.
