Becoming a historian

When becoming a Historian you will be working on the many skills to learn and incorporate into how you learn.  These skills are listening, questioning, close reading, note taking, annotating, assimilation of meaning, contextualize, corroboration, collaboration, evaluating sources, critical thinking, writing, extrapolating, exploring complexity, on-line reasoning, conveying and ultimately Historical thinking.  It sounds much more complicated but you will be able to do this.  You have already started this "Strands" work since Kindergarten and will continue in to your adult life.

Standards

 This will include learning California standards and content from a vest amount of curriculum areas from centuries of historiography by historians.  The checklist that you will be working on all year long for mastery will include these ideas.

Guided vs. essential Questions

The Guided questions will be the larger ideas we will be asking as a class.  When a topic from the standards come up there are questions that have been asked to understand the history.  The essential question is the question that a chapter asks when you are looking for basic background information.  The essential question introduces the topic of a section to chapter.  Further the main idea is a heading you can use to know ahead of time what the textbook is mainly trying to get across to you in your studies of history.

Framework

 This will include learning California framework standards and content from a vest amount of curriculum areas from centuries of historiography by historians.  This historian checklist will be updating all year long will include these ideas too.

Doing the work

Standards base research will be demonstrated with IPNB, Historians Checklist, and your presentation of the work that you do for the course.  Please always consult your syllabus and ask questions for clarification.  Through all our classes we focus on safety, freedom-choice, empowerment, love, and fun.  I hope this will meet your needs to become a great citizen historian, in which we say "philosopher king."
