This is when the country almost broke into bits over slavery. Cinco De Mayo was also a California-Latino-American creation for when the State of Mexico, ended up winning the Battle of Pueblo against the French in 1862. The French were going to help the south to help maintain slavery in the United States and create a southern front agains the United States. However many of people that had a heritage [Book of life] to Aztec, Maya, Olmec, Tiano, Arawak, Toltec, Inca, and others remembered the slavery of the Spanish and Portuguese for 0ver 400 years and wanted California to be a FREE state, not a SLAVE state.
